From the onset, Green Bliss Cafe has always leaned on the side of altruism and goodwill. In fact, proprietor Rita Ho-Bezzola embarked on her business model as a way of introducing sustainable living to their patrons while simultaneously developing a consciousness in preserving the gifts of Mother Earth.
Green Bliss has been giving back to the community continually by providing workshops on recycling, composting and the like. Regularly, they donate proceeds of their sales to worthwhile organizations such as Back to Natives and others. Their web hosting is 100 % powered by wind energy.
This evening, in conjunction with the monthly Fullerton Art Walk, they are sponsoring a fundraising event to help save a life — literally. 26-year old Julia Gurca, a resident of neighboring Yorba Linda, was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer a year ago. This past year has been hard on the family, and even more difficult on their financial situation.
Everything raised from the benefit will be used for Julia’s clinic bills, chemo treatment co-pays, prescriptions, possible future clinical trial fees and other expenses that Julia has incurred while battling this aggressive disease. Julia and her family are investigating all treatments possible–medically, alternatively and clinically–to help her beat cancer.
Elsa and Paul Dunlap have generously offered the courtyard at Villa del Sol as the venue and local businesses such as Lolo a Boutique and Studio EMP Photography are donating proceeds of their sales and a studio portrait session, respectively. Paintings from volunteering artists are also being auctioned, where 100% of the funds will go towards Julia’s treatment.
Aside from a silent auction, major raffle prizes include a Hawaiian vacation in a 5-star resort; weekend in Palm Springs, spa packages and tutoring lessons.
Other Immune Institute patients at the clinic have decided to help Julia by establishing a fundraising campaign and encouraging others to make a donation towards medical treatment that will help save Julia’s life.
