The public is invited to make their personal and artistic mark on the Great Park in Irvine by participating in a community art installation of 948 6×6-inch Masonite tiles. 948 being the operative number as it is the size of Orange County in square miles. The tiles will be on display at the new Great Park Palm Court Arts Complex on September 24 from 7-10pm as part of the Great 948 event. They will remain available for viewing in the Great Park Artists Studios through October 23. The art pieces will then be retained by the Park for future installations.

To participate, pick up a free Masonite tile at the Great Park Visitors Center and create an artwork that expresses a special place or time that is significant to you. Completed tiles are due by Friday, September 23 by 8 pm.

The tiles are an integral part of the Great 948 art event of which includes Plane Air Power, paintings and sculptures by Jorg Dubin in the Great Park Gallery.  Free Range Art and Photography by the Great Park’s very first Artist-in-Residence, Amy Caterina (a Cal State Fullerton alumni with a masters degree in photography) will also be on display in the Great Park Artists Studios.

At the event, gourmet food trucks will be on hand dishing out local flavors. Music will be provided by DJ Keith 2.0 and ‘Dust Collectors: DJs from the Crosby’, Strange Birds, Yellow Red Sparks and the Allah-Las.  For more information, please visit
