This past Wednesday afternoon, the peace of the quiet seaside community of Seal Beach was shattered when eight people were killed and one was injured in a shooting at Salon Meritage. It was the deadliest shooting in Orange County history.

Police have a single suspect, 42-year-old Scott Evans Dekraai of Huntington Beach, identified by witnesses and hair salon employees as the ex-husband of one of the salon employees.

Six people were found dead at the business, including the suspect’s ex-wife, Michele Fournier, with whom he was in a bitter child custody battle. Three other victims, two men and a 73-year-old woman, were taken to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, where two of them subsequently died. The ninth victim is still alive, but in critical condition.

Several hundred people attended a prayer service at a church across from the salon on Thursday night. More than 1,500 showed up with candles for a vigil in the parking lot of the salon.

In reaching out to the Seal Beach community, CULINARYsoundOC (an artisan agency) is hosting a fundraising dinner at Envy Ultra Lounge to benefit the victims’ families. Luis Guerrero, Marcus Hagan & Nick Balderas will take your taste buds on a journey from Farm to Table with Envy’s new Gastrochic menu.  All contributions are welcome and a portion of the event’s sales will be donated.

There will be Wine Tasting from 7pm -8pm (VINTAE+Matsu+WINERY ARTS) and YGS VISION Eyewear Cuisine Giveaways.

Prefixe menu is $35.00. RSVP is strongly encouraged. View the Facebook event page here.
